Come Up for Air project

The Come Up for Air Project
A new song for our time of isolation

Boston-based Carduus premieres this a cappella version of "Come Up for Air".   With sensitivity, they perform my song of despair leading to solace.  Here's a 30-second highlight. Here are the lyrics.

A few months ago, I found this piece in my "compost pile" of rejected efforts.  Maybe I was feeling edgy with news of the pandemic, but I switched out the sunny introduction for one of urgency.  As I write the lyrics as well, I found both music and words coming from an emotional place.

The piece had been “I’m here for you. Just come up for air.”  It morphed to “I’m depressed. Once you were there for me. How about now?”

I hope you enjoy it.

--Bernie Zelitch, composer and lyricist
